MEDIA RELEASE: Cineflix honoured with 11 wins at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards
Toronto—April 11, 2022— Cineflix Productions and Cineflix Studios were honoured with 11 wins at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards across program, craft, performance, and fan-favourite categories.
Cineflix Productions’ I Was Lorena Bobbitt took home four awards including Best TV Movie; Danishka Esterhazy for Best Direction, TV Movie; Luke Humphrey for Best Lead Actor, TV Movie; and Barbara Nance for Best Writing, TV Movie. On I Was Lorena Bobbitt, the once-battered woman who overcame years of abuse and a sensational televised trial becomes an advocate for victims of domestic violence everywhere. Jeff Vanderwal, Lorena Gallo, Sherri Rufh, Andy Streitfeld, and Charles Tremayne serve as the executive producers, with Kim Bondi as producer.
Wynonna Earp, the Cineflix Studios co-production with SEVEN24 Films won five awards in craft and performance categories. Among the winners were Tim Rozon for Best Supporting Actor, Drama; Jo-Dee Thomson for Best Achievement in Hair; Jennifer Haffenden for Best Costume Design; Trevor Smith, Amber Humphries for Best Production Design or Art Direction, Fiction; and Robert Carli, Peter Chapman for Best Original Music, Fiction. On the final night, Wynonna Earp was also celebrated with the COGECO Fund Audience Choice Award. In Wynonna Earp, a modern-day Wild West heroine wrangles a dysfunctional posse of gunslingers to rid her hometown of supernatural villains.
Tamara Podemski was recognized with Best Guest Performance, Drama Series for her role in Muse Entertainment, Back Alley Films, and Cineflix Studios’ highly rated crime procedural Coroner. With the fourth season recently launching on CBC, Coroner follows Dr. Jenny Cooper—a coroner who investigates suspicious, unnatural, or sudden deaths in Toronto.
