In a post-pandemic Japan, a segment of the population with supernatural abilities, known as Variants, is persecuted by the government and struggles against oppression and power. When two Variants, Ema and Umin, randomly meet, they make an unexpected connection that unlocks a secret power. Together, they fight for their existence and freedom, leading to a revolution.
But unbeknownst to Ema, Umin is not actually a Variant fighting for the cause—he’s secretly a double agent working as a spy for the Variant Crime Unit (VCU). As Umin goes deeper undercover and as their relationship grows, he is faced with the impossible choice of deceiving the woman he loves or betraying his handler, Liu, the man who also raised him.
From the producers of The Walking Dead, and based on the hit graphic novel created by Mortal Kombat 2’s Shawn Kittelsen and Eric Zawadzki, the dystopian drama series stars Kan’ichiro Sato (Kubi, Last Ninja – Blue Shadow) as Umin, Toko Miura (Drive My Car, Weathering with You) as Ema, and Goro Kishtani (Returner, Graveyard of Honor) as Umin’s handler, VCU Chief Liu.
