It started with a text.

Sent in the early morning hours after a Hockey Canada gala in London, Ontario, the message lands in a group chat shared by members of the 2018 Canadian World Junior hockey team. What begins as a consensual encounter between a young woman and one player shifts as more men arrive at a hotel room, altering the course of the night and the lives of those involved. Years later, five former members of that team stand trial in a London courtroom, where sharply different accounts collide and a country begins to question the sport it holds closest to its identity.

Through the present-day reporting of award-winning journalist Rick Westhead, Code of Misconduct follows the trial as it unfolds in real time, drawing on testimony, police interviews, and text message records to reconstruct what happened and what followed. As Westhead sits in court day after day, the film expands beyond a single case to examine the culture surrounding junior hockey in Canada — its rituals, loyalties, and silences — and the reckoning that comes when the game’s image meets the scrutiny of the justice system.
