The Role
Cineflix Media is currently looking to fill the role of Head of Production. This is a full-time role based in our Toronto, Ontario office on a hybrid, minimum three-day per week, in-office schedule.
The Head of Production is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all unscripted and scripted productions from development through delivery. This role provides strategic production oversight, financial governance, risk management, and broadcaster-facing leadership while supporting production teams to deliver creative excellence on time and on budget.
The Head of Production partners closely with Creative, Finance, Legal, and Technology leaders to ensure productions are commercially sound, compliant, and operationally efficient, while building strong external relationships with broadcasters, unions, and production partners.
This role is not responsible for day-to-day line producing, but rather for setting standards, resolving escalated risks, and ensuring consistency, accountability, and best practices across the slate.
The salary range for this role is $140,000-$180,000 CAD.
Responsibilities
Production Oversight & Strategy
- Oversee all aspects of unscripted and scripted productions from development to final delivery.
- Provide strategic guidance to production teams, ensuring alignment with company objectives, broadcaster expectations, and long-term production strategy.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on slate planning, production strategy, and capacity management.
- Maintain oversight of development spend, reporting, and deliverables.
Financial & Commercial Governance
- Oversee and approve production budgets, cashflows, and tax credit analyses.
- Ensure robust cost reporting, variance analysis, and production accounting practices across all productions.
- Partner closely with Finance to manage financial risk, forecasting, and reporting accuracy.
- Support funding applications by ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance of financial documentation.
Broadcaster & Partner Relationships
- Lead or support negotiations related to production budgets, schedules, milestone payments, and delivery terms.
- Oversee production inputs required for broadcaster delivery, certification, and funding compliance.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all production-related legal, contractual, insurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee production protocols, risk mitigation strategies, and escalation of critical issues.
- Ensure key creative and talent agreements are properly structured and adhered to.
- Oversee information required for domestic and international certifications and funding bodies.
Labour Relations & Industry Engagement
- Maintain strong relationships with industry partners, suppliers, and key production talent.
- Bring deep market knowledge and strong contacts across all key production roles.
- Manage union relationships in partnership with Legal and Finance.
People & Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Provide senior oversight and direction to production and post-production leadership teams.
- Support a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high production standards.
- Work closely with the Information Technology to assess and implement new technologies that improve production efficiency, cost management, or delivery workflows.
Skills & Experience
- Senior production leadership experience across both unscripted and scripted content.
- Proven expertise in overseeing complex production budgets, cashflows, and tax credits.
- Strong experience working with broadcasters, funders, and co-production partners.
- Demonstrated success managing production risk, compliance, and large-scale delivery.
- Experience managing or supporting union negotiations.
- Excellent commercial judgment and ability to balance creative ambition with financial discipline.
- Strong relationship builder with credibility across creative, financial, and operational stakeholders.
- Experience with domestic and international co-productions is essential.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in television or film production at a senior leadership level.
- Deep understanding of production finance, incentives, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, union environments, and broadcaster requirements.
