Media Release: Cineflix Rights announces multiple international sales for ‘Nordic Blue’ drama Hildur
MIPCOM: Cineflix Rights has announced a raft of international deals for English/Scandinavian language ‘Nordic Blue’ crime drama Hildur, coproduced by Take Two Studios and Sagafilm for streamer Ruutu (Finland) and Siminn TV (Iceland). The six-part series has been picked up by Canal+ (France), NPO (Netherlands), SBS (Australia), RTV (Slovenia), and LTV (Latvia).
Based on the novels by Satu Rämö, which have sold more than two million copies in 30 territories worldwide, and set in the remote and stunningly picturesque Westfjords region of Iceland, Hildur is the story of a young girl who suffered the heart-wrenching disappearance of her two sisters on their way home from school. Now, 25 years later and working as a detective in her hometown, Hildur is drawn into an investigation of a baffling series of crimes. Accompanied by unlikely allies Jakob, a Finnish trainee officer seeking a fresh start, and Florian, a German recruit mistakenly assigned to the team, she begins to uncover long-standing mysteries while it becomes clear that they are on the trail of a cunning serial killer.
Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir, who plays Hildur, received the prestigious Valkyrie Award at last month’s Inaugural Edition of the Freyas, the Nordic Film and TV Awards.
Tim Mutimer, CEO, Cineflix Rights said: “Hildur is the perfect example of the distinctive ‘Nordic Blue’ genre: a gripping police thriller that delivers not only crime and mystery, but also explores bigger themes of friendship, family, love, humour, and the emotional fallout of loss, all set against the atmospheric setting of Iceland’s Westfjords. Following its success in Finland and Iceland, we’re delighted to be rolling the series out internationally with these deals.”
The deal with Canal+ (France) was brokered by Sabrina Ayala, Sales Consultant, Iberia, Italy, French-speaking Europe, and French Canada; the RTV (Slovenia), and LTV (Latvia) deals were closed by Lucy Rawson, VP, Sales, German-speaking Europe, CEEMEA, and Southern Mediterranean; and the deal with SBS (Australia) was closed by Chris Bluett, SVP, Sales, Asia Pacific and Benelux. The deal with NPO (Netherlands) was broked by Belgian distributor Lumiere, which picked up the Benelux rights.
Hildur is a coproduction between Finnish Take Two Studios and Icelandic Sagafilm in association with IPR.VC. The director is Tinna Hrafnsdóttir, (Reykjavik 112, Vigdis, Descendants), it is written by head writer Matti Laine (Bordertown, The Paradise) together with Margret Örnolfsdottir (Trapped, Prisoners). The executive producers are Sara Norberg and Eero Hietala for Take Two Studios, Kjartan Thor Thordarson and Tjörvi Thorsson for Sagafilm and Timo Argillander, James Baker and Andrea Scarso for IPR.VC.
