The Role

Cineflix Rights is currently seeking to recruit a Rights Manager on a full-time basis, based in our Toronto, London, or Dublin office, depending on the selected candidate’s place of residence, on a hybrid schedule. Reporting to the EVP Global Business and Legal Affairs, Cineflix Media, this person will oversee and manage the entry and maintenance of media rights in Cineflix’s rights management system (“Rightstracker”, ”RT”). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team while utilizing RT to ensure that all rights are accurately tracked, maintained, and managed. The Rights Manager will be responsible for clarifying availabilities for the Sales Team, cross catalogue reporting and working directly with our Business Affairs and Finance Teams.

Key Duties

Managing a team of two people who are in our London & Dublin office the Rights Manager will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Ensure timely and accurate entry and ongoing updates of rights information for all distribution agreements and licenses within Cineflix’s rights management system Rightstracker (“RT”). Maintain detailed records of ownership, licenses, renewals, and usage terms for all rights.**
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams eg. production, sales, acquisitions, marketing, finance, and business affairs teams to ensure accurate reflection of rights and agreements in Cineflix’s databases.
  • Generate and evaluate a variety of reports and documents including availability reports for the Sales Team.
  • Negotiate and paper basic sales licenses based on approved templates.
  • First point of contact for any rights related queries and/or conflict/rights issues on all proposed sales and advise the rights and sales team on any legal issues; Collaborate with the BLA team regarding same where appropriate.
  • Provide regular updates and rights summaries to stakeholders on rights status for key projects.
  • Assist with any system improvements or updates related to the RT systems.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of rights executives by providing guidance and training to team members on best practices for using the RT adhering to rights management policies.
  • Delegate tasks and ensure timely and accurate completion of all rights-related projects.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a distribution, acquisition and/ or broadcast Rights environment is essential.
  • Experience in maintaining and interrogating databases, in particular experience in rights management systems (such as RT, Rightsline or Easytrack) is also essential
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Legal, Contract Admin or Paralegal background or University degree or recognised qualification is desirable but not essential.

Candidate Characteristics:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Excellent leadership skills with an ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of TV rights, licensing agreements, and content distribution across different platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with multiple departments and external parties.
  • Ability to explain complex rights information in a clear and concise manner.
