(MONTREAL) – Crave announced today the all-new original drama series SO LONG, MARIANNE premieres on Friday, Sept. 27 in both English and French. Debuting days after what would have been the Canadian singer-songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen’s 90th birthday, the eight-part series delves into the legendary love story between Cohen, and Norwegian Marianne Ihlen that inspired countless Cohen songs. SO LONG, MARIANNE is co-produced by Montreal’s C3 Media (part of the Cineflix Media group of companies).
Set in the 1960s in Greece, Norway, and Canada, SO LONG, MARIANNE is an intimate tale of two lonely people falling in love, during a period of their life when they are trying to figure out who they are, and their place in the world, while one is becoming one of the most famous singers of all time.
The series stars Alex Wolff (A Quiet Place: Day One, Hereditary, THE NAKED BROTHERS BAND ) as Leonard and breakout star Thea Sofie Loch Næss (THE LAST KINGDOM, Delete Me, A Storm for Christmas) as Marianne. Joining them are Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski), Anna Torv (The Newsreader, THE LAST OF US, MINDHUNTER) and Noah Taylor (PREACHER, PEAKY BLINDERS, GAME OF THRONES). As well as Canadian stars Macha Grenon (as Leonard’s mother), Éric Bruneau, Kim Lévesque Lizotte, Robin L’Houmeau with Canadian singer Patrick Watson contributing music to the series.
Earlier this year, SO LONG, MARIANNE premiered at the prestigious Series Mania festival to rave reviews. The Hollywood Reporterpraised Alex Wolff’s performance as Leonard Cohen, calling it “shining,” while Variety hailed it as “one of the highest-profile and most anticipated world premieres in Series Mania’s main competition.”
SO LONG, MARIANNE features an all-star creative team including Bronwen Hughes (SHANTARAM, BREAKING BAD, BETTER CALL SAUL), who directed four episodes, and Norwegian director Øystein Karlsen (EXIT, DAG, LILYHAMMER, WHITSTABLE PEARL) who directed the remaining four episodes, as well as wrote and co-created the series alongside Tony Wood (IRVINE WELSH’S CRIME, MARCELLA, WHITSTABLE PEARL), and Ingeborg Klyve (EXIT).
