MEDIA RELEASE: Cineflix Rights unveils MIPCOM 2022 slate
Cineflix Rights is celebrating its twentieth anniversary as the UK’s largest, truly independent distributor with a slate of new and returning drama series, movies, and factual brands launching at MIPCOM 2022.
Leading the company’s scripted offering is Last King of The Cross (10×60’, HELIUM Pictures for Paramount+ Australia), starring Tim Roth (The Hateful Eight, Lie to Me, Sundown) and Lincoln Younes (Grand Hotel, Tangle, Barons). Inspired by true events, the series charts the rise of a poverty-stricken immigrant with no education, no money, and no prospects to Australia’s most infamous nightclub mogul and is set in Sydney’s decadent, iconic Kings Cross district in the late 1980s and 1990s.
Reginald the Vampire (10×60’, Great Pacific Media, Modern Story, December Films, and Cineflix Studios for Syfy, US), stars Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as the unlikely titular hero, in a supernatural dramedy which turns traditional vampire tropes on their head. Sugar (1×90’, Connect3 Media and Sepia Films) is a feature thriller inspired by the dramatic real-life story of the ‘Cocaine Cowgirls,’ two young Canadian influencers on a dream trip which turns into a nightmare when they become entangled in a deadly drug smuggling operation. Jodi Arias: Bad Behind Bars (1×90’, Cineflix Productions for Lifetime, US) is a psychological thriller about a couple whose lives are nearly destroyed by the ultimate femme fatale.
They join returning seasons of Acorn TV’s cozy crime series Whitstable Pearl; Irvine Welsh’s Crime, the acclaimed author’s riveting adaptation of his best-selling novel for ITVX/BritBox; and Kan 11 Network’s multi-award-winning Israeli police corruption drama, Manayek.
Factual series launching at MIPCOM include innovative natural history series Patrick Aryee’s Wild World, (4×60’, Cineflix Productions and Curve Media for Sky Nature, UK), which sees the British biologist and explorer reveal the complex web of interactions that link the tiniest of creatures to the mightiest carnivores on the planet.
Holiday Homes in the Sun (80×60’, Raise the Roof Productions and Motion Content Group for Channel 5, UK) is the perfect escapist travel show, scouring Europe for vacation homes to rent and assessing each one on its merits to choose a winner. The Yorkshire Auction House (Seasons 1&2, 40×60’, STV Productions for Discovery+, UK) traverses the UK, turning forgotten treasures into incredible windfalls of cash.
New additions to Cineflix Rights’ true crime slate include Cult Justice (8×60’, Law&Crime Productions for True Crime Network, US), which features the chilling true stories of false prophets who thought they were above the law; and Somebody’s Hiding Something (26×60’, Cineflix Productions and First Story Productions for Bell Media, Canada, A&E UK, and True Crime Network, US), a whodunnit documentary series following investigators as they search for the person who holds the clue that will finally blow a case wide open. And O.J. Simpson: Blood, Lies & Murder (2×60’, Buck Productions in association with Connect3 Media for REELZ, US) re-examines the most notorious double-murder investigation of all time and reveals shocking new evidence that points straight to the killer.
History of the Sitcom (8×60’, Cream Productions for CNN Original Series, US) reunites audiences with the sitcom friends, families, and co-workers they’ve loved watching over the years, while also introducing them to comedies that are sure to be a binge-watch.
Close Encounters Down Under (6×60’, Perpetual Entertainment for 7Mate, Australia, TVNZ, New Zealand, and AETN, UK, Ireland, Poland, and Romania) reveals untold stories of UFO sightings, abductions, and other paranormal events—set against Australia and New Zealand’s staggeringly beautiful landscape; while Ghost Ships (4×60’, Arcadia Entertainment for Bell Media, Canada) follows a team of ocean adventurers, battling against the harsh marine environment, as they uncover the truth about some historic maritime catastrophes.
