Talesmith and Cineflix co-produce myth-busting documentary Rediscovering T-Rex for international broadcasters BBC, CBC, and France Télévisions

September 25, 2017

Talesmith, the high-end factual production company, and leading content creator and producer Cineflix, have been jointly commissioned by the BBC in association with CBC and France Télévisions (France 5) to co-produce Rediscovering T-Rex, a documentary special exposing the myths surrounding the most infamous predator to have ever walked the earth, Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Cineflix Rights, the sales and distribution division of Cineflix Media Inc., has the exclusive global rights to Rediscovering T-Rex and will be launching the co-production to international buyers at MIPCOM 2017.

The one-hour documentary reveals the inaccuracies and misrepresentations fuelled by films and gaps in our scientific understanding. Travelling the globe to hear from international experts, the program uncovers ground-breaking insights into not only what T-Rex looked like but also its behaviour – exposing the real beast behind the myth. With both a new understanding of palaeontology and zoology, and trailblazing technology, Rediscovering T-Rex will then attempt to create the most accurate CGI representation of the Tyrannosaurus Rex ever produced.

To bring T-Rex to life, the documentary also has access to ‘Tristan’, one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils in the world; as well as the latest scientific research to help reconstruct the brain, voice, and the full force of its bone-crushing jaws.

Martin Williams, Executive Producer, Talesmith said: “At Talesmith, we’re all about forging new perspectives, big ideas and big characters, and the ambition of this film says it all. There really aren’t any bigger characters or stories than the most famous predator on earth – and we’re taking on Hollywood with our own, true portrayal of this magnificent animal.”

André Barro, Executive Producer, Cineflix said: “Rediscovering T-Rex is a great example of what Cineflix can bring to our co-production partners. Our expertise and resources offer partners an innovative and producer-friendly platform to create outstanding content for the global market. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with the creative team at Talesmith on this hugely exciting project.”

Chris Bonney, CEO, Rights, Cineflix Media added: “Rediscovering T-Rex is the type of informative, high quality content from blue chip creatives which works across multiple territories. We already have a lot of interest from buyers and it looks like it will be one of our most in-demand titles at MIPCOM.”

Rediscovering T-Rex is produced by Ruth Roberts and directed by Mark Everest (Torchwood and Silent Witness). Executive producers are Martin Williams for Talesmith and André Barro for Cineflix. The BBC version is presented by renowned naturalist, life-long T-Rex enthusiast Chris Packham; award-winning scientist, environmentalist, and broadcaster David Suzuki presents for CBC. The France Télévisions (France 5) and International versions are presenter-less. The commissioning French-language broadcaster in Canada is Canal D.
