Pearl is chef-proprietor of the eponymous Whitstable Pearl restaurant which she runs alongside her son, Charlie, waitress Ruby, and in spite of, her mother Dolly. She is also the owner of a newly formed detective agency, finally putting her distant police-training to good use. Pearl’s frustrations with the police’s own investigations bring her into conflict with DCI Mike McGuire recently down from London which she finds infuriating, yet somehow, she can’t seem to stay away from him…
Meanwhile, the undertow beneath is pulling Pearl into the secrets washed up with the death of close family friend Vinnie Rowe in Episode One, that threaten everything she knew of her own family before revealing the dark secret her mother has submerged for 30 years.
