MEDIA RELEASE: Cineflix Rights launches scripted slate for MIPCOM 2023

October 10, 2023

Cineflix Rights has unveiled its MIPCOM 2023 scripted slate of hotly anticipated new dramas featuring A-List talent alongside returning seasons of award-winning, standout series and captivating movies from critically acclaimed creative teams.

The Doll Factory (6×60’, Buccaneer for Paramount+, UK)

London, 1851. Iris (Esmé Creed-Miles, Hannah) paints dolls for a living but dreams of becoming an artist. Silas (Éanna Hardwicke, The Sixth Commandment, Normal People) is a taxidermist who hopes to find an item which will catapult him to fame. Louis (George Webster, Masters of the Air, Wedding Season), an artist, is searching for his next muse. As their worlds collide, Iris is offered an opportunity to start a new life but to do so, she must abandon her sister, sacrifice her reputation, and launch herself into the unknown. Based on Elizabeth Macneal’s best-selling novel, The Doll Factory is a shocking gothic thriller, told through a sharp, modern, and uniquely female gaze, and a searing story of love, art, freedom—and what happens when a woman dares to take what she wants in a world that would rather kill her than let her have it.

Men Up (1×90’, Quay Street Productions and BOOM for BBC1, UK)

Years before the little blue pill changed the lives for millions across the globe, a group of ordinary middle-aged men in Wales underwent the extraordinary, taking part in one of the first clinical trials for an unknown drug which later became Viagra. Mixing drama with humour, Men Up is a poignant story in which a group of unassuming men rise to the challenge to reclaim their sex lives, becoming global pioneers in the process. Written by Matthew Barry (Industry), directed by Ashley Way (White Lines), and executive produced by Russell T Davies (Nolly, It’s a Sin, Doctor Who) and Nicola Shindler (Happy Valley, It’s a Sin, Years and Years), Men Up stars Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones), Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk), Mark Lewis Jones (Gangs of London), and Alexandra Roach (Sanditon).

Late Bloomer (8×30’, Pier 21 Films in association with Bell Media for Crave, Canada)

A new comedy from YouTuber Jus Reign, Late Bloomer follows the everyday life of Jasmeet Dutta (played by Jasmeet Raina), a turban-wearing millennial struggling to find his place in life while balancing Eastern roots with Western ideals. Like many his age, Jasmeet feels behind in life compared to his peers, and working as a delivery driver for his mother’s Tiffin business isn’t helping. Jasmeet’s video blog sharing his journey leads him to connect with a growing audience, but his increased popularity makes it harder to maintain his commitment to family and culture.

Abducted: The Carlesha Gaither Story (1×90’, Cineflix Productions for Lifetime, US)

A gripping TV Movie chronicling the abduction of a Philadelphia nurse’s aide at the hands of a homicidal predator, and how she battled to survive. Determined to outsmart her captor, Carlesha leaves behind clues at every stop and manages to get inside his mind. Meanwhile, her family makes an impassioned plea to the media, and a committed detective mobilizes to find Carlesha alive.

Returning series include:

Last King of The Cross (Seasons 1&2, 18×60’, HELIUM for Paramount+, Australia), which charts the rise of a poverty-stricken immigrant with no education, no money, and no prospects to Australia’s most infamous nightclub mogul and is set in Sydney’s decadent, iconic Kings Cross district in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Reginald the Vampire (Seasons 1&2, 20×60’, Great Pacific Media, Modern Story, December Films and Cineflix Studios for SYFY, US), starring Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: No Way Home), turns traditional vampire tropes on their head while draining the blood from modern-day beauty standards.

Irvine Welsh’s Crime (Seasons 1&2, 12×60’, Buccaneer and Off Grid Film and TV for ITVX, UK)

Acclaimed Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh’s adaptation of his own best-selling novel, starring Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2, Batwoman) in the role which won him a 2021 International Emmy® for Best Performance by an Actor.

Also returning are Icelandic political thriller The Minister (Seasons 1&2, 16×60’, Sagafilm for RUV, Iceland, SVT, Sweden, NRK, Norway, DR, Denmark, YLE, Finland); Israeli police corruption thriller Manayek (Seasons 1-3, 30×60’, Yoav Gross Productions for Kan 11, Israel);  and dark humoured crime caper Happily Married (Seasons 1-3, 28×60’, Productions Casablanca for Radio Canada).
