MEDIA RELEASE: Cineflix Productions’ Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey Wins at the Canadian Screen Awards

The third night of the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards virtual presentation saw Cineflix win two awards for Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey. Celebrating the best in scripted, the television movie was honoured with the award for Best TV Movie and Best Writing, TV Movie for Christina Welsh.  

Starring Katie Douglas, David James Elliott, and Rossif Sutherland, Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey recounts the incredible kidnapping of 17-year-old Lisa McVey, who after working a late shift at the local donut shop is taken prisoner and raped by a sadistic predator. Before the shocking event, Lisa had already endured years of abuse by a family membermand was contemplating suicide. But now she finds herself in a desperate fight for survival. She not only finds the will to go on but works to outsmart her captor. After escaping no one believes her shocking story, and it isn’t until a kind-hearted detective takes the time to truly connect with Lisa that the authorities realize that not only is it all true, but that Lisa holds the key to finding her cruel attacker.
