Cineflix Rights acquires global distribution rights to new drama series Happily Married

December 03, 2019

Cineflix Rights has acquired exclusive global distribution rights to the new Canadian drama C’est comme ça que je t’aime (Happily Married), the latest series from writer François Létourneau and director Jean-François Rivard, who previously worked together on the critically-acclaimed and award-winning Les Invincibles and Série Noire.

From award-winning, Montreal-based Productions Casablanca, this 10-hour first season comedy drama for Radio-Canada Télé and Tou.Tv Extra is set in the 1970s and recounts the “almost true” story of the ‘Sainte Foy Killers’.

The series revolves around two couples in crisis, let down by love, friendships, and family. After dropping their children off at camp in July 1974, both couples are confronted by the lamentable state of their married lives. But in a society where divorce is still frowned upon, their search for marital bliss leads them to take a series of drastic decisions and ultimately they become the most infamous quartet of criminals in Quebec history. The drama explores what motivates a group of unremarkable middle-class suburbanites to descend into a ruthless life of murder and criminality.

Happily Married stars series writer François Létourneau (Les Invincibles, Série Noire), Patrice Robitaille (Les Invincibles, Victor Lessard), Marilyn Castonguay (Plan B, Matthias et Maxime), Karine Gonthier-Hyndman (Like-moi!, Les Simone), and Sophie Desmarais (The Forbidden Room, Sarah Prefers to Run). The series is due to premiere on Radio-Canada Télé and Tou.Tv Extra in Spring 2020.

Julien Leroux, SVP of Global Scripted Co-Productions, Cineflix Media said: “We’re immensely proud to be partnering with François Létourneau, Jean-François Rivard, and the teams at Casablanca and Radio-Canada. Happily Married is such a unique series with a fascinating mix between a crime series, a relationship drama, and a dark comedy. We’re thrilled to be adding it to our growing scripted portfolio and can’t wait to introduce the show to the international market.”

Joanne Forgues, Producer/Executive Producer added: “Happily Married continues our work with this incredible team of creators. After Les Invincibles and then Série Noire, we are proud that their latest creation has been selected by Content London.”

Dany Meloul, General Manager – Television, Radio-Canada commented: “Happily Married is a very distinctive series and we are pleased that it will have the opportunity to be showcased to audiences around the world. The Radio-Canada Distribution, Casablanca, and Cineflix teams have worked in close collaboration to make this agreement happen.’’

Happily Married is produced by Productions Casablanca for Radio-Canada Télé and Tou.Tv Extra. The series is written by François Létourneau and directed by Jean-François Rivard, with Joanne Forgues and Catherine Faucher as producers. Joanne Forgues, Charles Ohayon, and Jean-Marc Casanova are the executive producers.
