MEDIA RELEASE: Cineflix Rights announces multiple international sales for RTÉ and BBC hit drama The Walsh Sisters
Cineflix Rights has announced a raft of international deals for RTÉ and BBC hit comedy-drama The Walsh Sisters. The six-part series has been picked up by Disney+ for a UK second window, TV2 (Norway), TV4 (Sweden), MTV Oy (Finland), TVNZ, Pickbox (Balkans), and Yes (Israel), alongside Stan as the Australian home for the drama. The deals follow last week’s announcement that Roku’s Howdy streamer will be the US home for the series.
Based on the best-selling novels of Marian Keyes, The Walsh Sisters is a darkly funny, emotionally raw drama about the chaotic, dysfunctional, but deeply loveable family of five sisters, their mother, and bemused father in their Dublin hometown. Bound by love, history, and a tendency to self-destruct, each of them must navigate life’s messiness—stumbling through secrets, family feuds, and moments of grace—as they confront who they truly are and the roles they’ve always played.
Season One of The Walsh Sisters was RTÉ’s highest-rated drama of the past two years. The series was widely praised by critics who called it “the best drama of the year so far” (Daily Telegraph) and “so addictive I couldn’t tear myself away” (Daily Mail), and said, “what makes this series so utterly relatable and loveable is its juxtaposition of light and shade” (Hello!).
RTÉ, the BBC and Cineflix Rights recently announced the start of production of a second season of the series, which will also air on Stan.
Sandra Piha, SVP, Sales, Pan-Regional, UK, Eire, and Nordics, Cineflix Rights who brokered the Disney+ and Nordic deals said: “The comedy, drama and emotion woven through the lives of the closely-knit Walsh family and their loved ones has really been taken to heart by audiences. We’re thrilled to be bringing the series to more viewers around the world through these latest deals, and we can’t wait to see where their stories go next in Season Two.”
The deals with TVNZ and BBC (Netherlands) were closed by Chris Bluett, SVP, Sales, Asia Pacific and Benelux; the Pickbox and Yes deals were closed by Lucy Rawson, VP, Sales, German-speaking Europe, CEEMEA, and Southern Mediterranean.
The Walsh Sisters is adapted by Stefanie Preissner (Solpadeine is My Boyfriend, Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope). It is produced by Cuba Pictures, a VICE Studios company, and Metropolitan Pictures for RTÉ in association with the BBC, Screen Ireland, and Cineflix Rights. The executive producers are Dixie Linder and Nick Marston for Cuba Pictures, David McLoughlin for Metropolitan Pictures, David Crean and Dermot Horan for RTÉ, Tom Misselbrook for Cineflix Rights, along with Stefanie Preissner, Marian Keyes, and Tony Baines. Patrick O’Donoghue serves as Producer. Cineflix Rights is the exclusive worldwide distribution partner.
