Cineflix Rights sells Marcella to Canal+ Group’s Polar+ channel

May 16, 2019

Cineflix Rights has sold Season 1 of its critically-acclaimed hit drama series Marcella to France’s Polar+ channel, part of the Canal+ group.

Marcella (Season 1, 8×60’, Buccaneer Media for ITV and Netflix) is a dark and complex crime thriller from internationally renowned screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge). Starring Anna Friel, who won an International Emmy® Award for her outstanding performance in the first season, Marcella is set in contemporary London and centres on the psychological struggles of a Metropolitan police officer investigating a serial killer, while dealing with a crisis in her personal life.

The series, told in Rosenfeldt’s unflinchingly clear Nordic noir style, was a huge ratings success for ITV and has also been broadcast worldwide on Netflix. Cineflix Rights has exclusive global rights to Marcella, which is now in production on Season 3.

Sabrina Ayala, SVP, Sales, France, Italy, Iberia, and Latin America, Cineflix Rights, who concluded the deal said: “Marcella has captivated audiences with its strong cast led by Anna Friel, together with Hans’ compelling writing and the gripping creative vision from Tony Wood’s Buccaneer Media. We’re delighted that it will be available to French viewers on Polar+, a channel of the prestigious Canal+ group.”
