January 23, 2025

Cineflix Rights today unveiled a first look at upcoming eight-part Stan Original series Sunny Nights, produced by Jungle Entertainment (No Activity, Mr. Inbetween) and Echo Lake Entertainment (Emmy®-nominated The Great), in association with Cineflix Rights (Last King of The Cross, Tehran) and directed and executive produced by Trent O’Donnell (Colin from Accounts, No Activity, Population 11, Hacks). The series has been chosen for Berlinale’s prestigious Series Market Selects 2025.

Sunny Nights is a darkly comedic crime drama starring Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Bodkin, Saturday Night Live) as strait-laced American Martin Marvin, who teams up with his loose cannon sister, Vicki, played by D’Arcy Carden (Nobody Wants This, The Good Place, Barry), to set up a spray tan business in Sydney. Home to one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world, Australia is also home to Martin’s estranged wife, whom he’s determined to win back. But as Martin and Vicki attempt to turn their company from a start-up operating out of the back of a van into a multi-million-dollar empire, the siblings become tangled up in Sydney’s criminal underworld, and when a ruthless gangster begins to catch up with them, the two must figure out how to stay alive, out of prison, and in the black.

Sunny Nights supporting cast members include Rachel House (Thor: Ragnarok, Heartbreak High, Foundation), Jessica De Gouw (The Couple Next Door, The Artful Dodger, Ladies in Black), Miritana Hughes (Wakefield, Preacher), Ra Chapman (White Fever, Wentworth), Megan Wilding (Gold Diggers, Mystery Road: Origin), and a special appearance from Patrick Brammall (Colin From Accounts, No Activity, The Letdown).

Trent O’Donnell said: “I loved the pilot for Sunny Nights and immediately thought of Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden to play the leads. Miraculously, they both said yes, which inspired me to direct all eight episodes. The collaboration among Will, Darcy, and our incredibly talented Australian and New Zealand cast has made this a dream project!”

James Durie, Head of Scripted, Cineflix Rights said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Jungle and Echo Lake, companies that have produced outstanding, distinctive global hits. We can’t wait to start rolling out Sunny Nights, which is helmed by the incredibly talented Trent O’Donnell, to our global buyers.”

Jason Burrows, Executive Producer and MD, Jungle Entertainment added: “Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden really bring to life the comedy in Ty Freer and Nick Keetch’s brilliant scripts, but also all the dramatic tension that comes from trying to save their business while avoiding the long arms of the mob.  Supported by a fantastic Australian and New Zealand cast including Jessica De Gouw and Rachel House, we are really looking forward to sharing Sunny Nights with viewers.”

Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said: “At Stan, we are dedicated to shaping stories that transcend borders, reflecting the universal while celebrating the distinct. Our passion for bold, authentic storytelling fuels collaborations that captivate global audiences, ensuring that Australian creativity not only shines at home but leaves a lasting imprint on the world stage.
