MEDIA RELEASE: TF1’s crime drama Rebecca, produced by ELEPHANT, heads to Hulu following Cineflix Rights deal

January 20, 2022

Cineflix Rights has closed a deal with Hulu for Rebecca, the fast-paced, eight-part crime drama set in Paris and produced by ELEPHANT for TF1. The deal follows recent sales of the series to DIRECTV Latin America and Sky Brasil.

Six years after quitting her job and abandoning the hunt for a serial killer, Rebecca (Anne Marivin, Call My Agent!) is back on the police force. And as she investigates a spate of violent murders that all carry the same signature, she becomes convinced the killer has resurfaced. Obsessed by the case, betrayed by her husband (Benjamin Biolay, Captaine Marleau) and hampered by a series of crippling blackouts, Rebecca throws herself into work to avoid falling apart. But her attempts to track down the murderer only bring her demons to the surface.

A TF1 Original, Rebecca is directed by Didier Le Pêcheur (Innocents) and co-written by Le Pêcheur and Delphine Labouret (Innocents). Produced by Gaëlle Cholet, Sandra Ouaiss and Guillaume Renouil, Rebecca is based on Buccaneer Media’s global hit series Marcella.

An average of 4M people watched the series each week in France (TV broadcast + digital replay), making the show the most watched TV program three out of four evenings during its run. It has also been a hit on the French streaming service Salto, ranking as the top most-watched program for several consecutive weeks.

James Durie, Head of Scripted, Cineflix Rights said: “Rebecca has been a great success in France thanks to ELEPHANT’s fantastic creative team and the excellent cast. We’re thrilled the series is now available to international audiences, who I’m sure will enjoy it just as much. Alongside these deals, we have several more in the pipeline as well as ongoing discussions for the format rights to both Rebecca and Marcella.”

“We are very proud to have our French-made Rebecca travelling to the US on such a prestigious platform as Hulu,” added Sandra Ouaiss, producer, ELEPHANT. “We feel that our French adaptation, with a distinct European approach to the characters and storyline will appeal to those who are already familiar with Marcella.”

The deal with Hulu was closed by Lucinda Gergley-Garner, SVP, Sales, North America, and German Speaking Territories, and the deals with DIRECTV Latin America and Sky Brasil were closed by Sabrina Ayala, SVP, Sales, France, Italy, Iberia, and Latin America.
