The first trailer for the new USA Network series Anna Pigeon has been released, setting up the world of the titular character played by Tracy Spiridakos. The show’s premiere date has been set for August 7 at 10 p.m.

From Morwyn Brebner and based on the bestselling novels by Nevada Barr, the series follows Anna, a former city slicker who becomes a park ranger after a devastating loss that changed the trajectory of her life forever. While Anna tries to outrun her demons, her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, no matter who or what gets in her way.

The trailer reveals the loss is that of her husband, who was killed; the perpetrator was never caught. It also sets up the big bad, Jeremiah Paulson (Kim Coates), a local landowner who gives Anna a hard time as he makes plans to build in the park. She’s a tough cookie and gives him a run for his money. He later mysteriously offers Anna information on her husband’s murder if she promises to back off from his business.

Anna Pigeon also stars series regulars Ronnie Rowe Jr. as FBI Agent Frederick Stanton, a charismatic wanderer who chases crimes through national parks; and Paulina Alexis as Zoey Bear Child, a young ranger coming into her own, whom Anna mentors.

The recurring cast includes Tricia Helfer as Molly Pigeon, Anna’s older sister; Cooper Levy as Jesse Garland, a bartender and Anna’s on-again-off-again love interest; Jordan Sledz as Zach Redhill, a classically trained actor and a love interest from Anna’s past; Ryan Northcott as Geoff Miller, Anna’s boss; Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz as Manny López, a gentle soul and recovering addict; Crystle Lightning as Frieda Dierkz, the dispatcher and backbone of the park; Melanie Scrofano as Bethany Lopez, the wife of park ranger Manny, who is working to find her place within the ranger community; and Nikki Hallow as Christina Clark, an admin at the park and a single mother who takes special pride in caring for the rangers.

Deadline shared a special preview of the series in January, with a slew of exclusive photos and a Q&A with Spiridakos, who shared insight into what fans can expect from the series and, in turn, explained some of the bits from the trailer.

“The pilot itself is based on Track of the Cat, which is the very first part of the Anna Pigeon book series. Anna is investigating after one of the Rangers, who has gone missing, and she’s trying to figure out what happened and where they are. I hope that audiences can really immerse themselves in the wilderness, which is definitely its own character. It’s so stunningly beautiful. Every day we were working, and I looked around, pinching myself and wondering, ‘How is this my life?’” she said.

Spiridakos continued, “We will be solving the crime of the week, or the mystery of the week, and all the characters are rooted in this really human, emotional journey and depth. On top of that, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. So there’s some levity, and some jokes, and we tease each other, and Anna makes fun of herself. Hopefully, audiences will feel that it’s this fun adventure that they’re along for the ride with us.”

Anna Pigeon is produced by Cineflix, December Films, and Seven24 Films for USA Network in association with Bell Media. Brebner serves as showrunner, with Lea Thompson directing. Brebner and Thompson executive produce alongside Todd Berger, Brett Burlock, Sonia Hosko, Julie Di Cresce, Peter Emerson, Gordon Gilbertson, Tom Cox and Jordy Randall. Leslie Cowan serves as producer. Cineflix Rights is the exclusive international worldwide distribution partner.
